VentriclesThe ventricles are spaces in the cerebral hemispheres and brainstem where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is secreted. There is a lateral ventricle inside each hemisphere, one third ventricle in the midline, and a 4th ventricle in the brainstem over the posterior surface of the pons and medulla. The lateral ventricles are each connected to the 3rd ventricle by an interventricular foramen. The 3rd ventricle communicates with the 4th ventricle through the cerebral aqueduct. CSF exits the 4th ventricle through 3 apertures: a single Foramen of Magendie in the midline between the medulla and cerebellum and 2 Foramina of Luschka located laterally at the junction of pons and medulla (the cerebellopontine angle)
